“Re-creators” is the art of the new generation. Although there have been creatives using mixed media for centuries, thanks to the rise of the internet, the creative youth of today have been using platforms like Instagram and Tumblr to showcase their creative expression. With a definite trend leaning towards youth’s obsession with celebrity culture, creatives use all sorts of mediums to create their artwork; ranging from hand-drawing, to photoshop collages. These are artists who are taking (sometimes) boring pieces of fashion advertising or editorial and using their own interpretations of them to add humour, beauty, political thoughts or simply just to express themselves. These often lead to extremely highly sharable pieces of work, and we love them. Here are some of our favourite re-creators of the moment.
Ernesto Artillo is a Spanish re-creator in his 20’s. Collaborations include Mango and Dolce & Gabbana.
Taylor St Claire takes images and, literally, re-creates them. If you love doodles, illustration and celebrity, you’ll love Taylor’s work. Follow her on Instagram for frequent updates!
Also called “theflowerguy,” Michael De Feo paints directly onto images with bright colours and simple brush strokes to enhance and revive editorial images.
We interviewed Ben Giles a couple of years ago in our “Sharp Issue.” Read it here. Ben is a British collage artist.
Pablo Tecuardo is a photographer and collage artist based out of Madrid, Spain.
