It’s not going to be news to you that fewer and fewer people print their images out. Long gone are the days where we take a roll of film to our local developper and wait in anticipation to see our snaps. Be them family holiday images, or an editorial you slaved away on for hours, most of the images we take are seen on a screen, and never anything else.
We’re here to tell you why that should absolutely change!
Nothing Feels Better Than Holding Your Work in your Hands: If you’re a professional photographer, or fashion designer, or make up artist, or anyone who does anything creative that involves photos, you will know that nothing beats holding your work in your hands. I’m a big advocate of everyone having printed portfolios to share with clients. iPad’s are great, and yes they’re portable, so if you’ve got no other way, by all means use an iPad. But if you really want to add that wow factor to your work, having your images printed will add so much more depth to them. Don’t ask me why this is, but I think it just makes it all the more real.
Computers Die – Paper Doesn’t: It’s a sad fact that, sadly, computers and hard drives just aren’t 100% reliable. We’ve all had at least one hard drive fail on us before, and with it go the hundreds and thousands of files that we once loved. So what are you waiting for? Print your favourite images. Even if they’re holiday snaps of you and your boyfriend, you should really be printing them out. You never know when technology might fail on you! Keep that tangible evidence alive.
You Won’t Look At Them: Have you ever sad down at your computer to nostalgically click through old albums? Maybe once or twice, but let’s face it, it’s not often. I’ve got a couple of printed photo albums on my living room table, and guess what, I do actually pick them up and look through them! Better yet, so do my friends and family. When you print your images out, you’re simply far more likely to enjoy them frequently.
Decorate Your House: Seems obvious, but why not print your images out to decorate your house with? Don’t limit yourself to your holiday snaps either. Be bold and pick the favourite piece of work that you’ve ever created, blow it up big, frame and it and put it somewhere in your house so that you’ll see it frequently. Not only is it lovely to have your work framed and blown up, but it will remind you of your pride and joy in your work. There’s no need to hide it from the world! Not interested in frames? There are so many other ways you can display photos; like this Photo Rope from Parabo Press!
